CHOK-A-BLOK™ Strap Guards – Protect Your Boat in Transit

CHOK-A-BLOK™ strap guards protect both the cargo and the webbing strap when securing loads to trailers, trucks, car roof racks or freight vessels. Developed by a professional sailor and an engineer after witnessing first-hand the damage caused by standard nylon webbing straps during yacht transit, the product solves a problem that offcuts of foam, carpet and felt consistently fail to address. Available in two sizes covering strap widths from 25mm to 50mm, CHOK-A-BLOK clips directly onto the strap, stays in place during positioning, and slides to the points of contact.

CHOK-A-BLOK™ was built around a specific problem. In October 2008, professional sailor Alister was asked to repair a yacht that had been damaged in transit from the USA to the UK. Much of that damage had been caused by the nylon webbing straps used to hold the vessel in place on the deck of a freighter. The standard industry solution – cutting pieces of foam, carpet or felt to place between the strap and the surface – had failed. As the cargo moved and the straps flexed, the protection fell out.

Together with engineer Alec, with 44 years of engineering experience between them, Alister set about designing a product that wouldn't move. The result, developed and refined over several years with input from within the logistics industry, is CHOK-A-BLOK – now sold worldwide.

The strap guard clips directly onto the webbing strap and stays in place throughout the positioning process. It slides easily to the points of contact and additional units can be butt-jointed to extend coverage. As tension is applied, the polypropylene top surface allows the strap to slip freely across it, eliminating the frictional damage that causes surface marking on gelcoat, varnished wood and other finished surfaces.

The foam used is medical grade – a closed-cell polyethylene foam formed with environmentally inert nitrogen, resistant to moisture, oils, solvents, dilute acids and UV light. It will not cause corrosion or silver staining. The polypropylene clip remains flexible at low temperatures and is chemically resistant to most acids, oils and fuels.
