Solar powered with 200 hours of battery storage, it displays speed, heading, heel, trim and line distance on a twin-screen layout designed for maximum readability – even when hiking or trapezing. Submersible to 20m, shock-proofed with triple-layer protection, and GPS-accurate across four satellite constellations, it logs 300 hours of data for post-race replay and export. Supplied with two keypads for adjustable class legality.

The Sailteck GPS Compass is a racing instrument that does more than show you where you're pointing. Speed, heading, heel, trim, line distance, GPS countdown and atomic time-of-day – all displayed on a twin-screen layout with large digits designed for readability at pace. Whether you're hiking hard or on the wire, the data stays clear.

At a glance:

  • Solar powered with 200 hours of battery storage – no charging required before or between races
  • Submersible to 20m with triple-layer shock protection and no exposed glass
  • Twin display with large digits – designed for readability when hiking or trapezing
  • GPS accuracy across 30+ satellites from four independent constellations, with a large sky-facing patch antenna to eliminate signal drop-out
  • Supplied with red and grey keypads for quick class legality switching, with no effect on the waterproof seal.

Waterproofing is handled by a single continuous seal, with no weak links in the design. Submersible to 20m and buoyant if it goes over the side. The electronics are fully encapsulated and mounted on rubber shock absorbers, with no exposed glass and a triple-layer impact protection system covering the bezel, inner plastics and rubber mounts.

GPS accuracy comes from a large sky-facing patch antenna working across more than 30 satellites from four independent constellations. This eliminates the drop-outs and precision loss that can affect instruments with smaller, housing-constrained antennas.

Power is solar, with a high-efficiency panel and 200 hours of battery storage. No charging cables, no pre-race routine.

The instrument stores 300 hours of track data for export and race replay. An upcoming software upgrade will add track sharing – allowing you to overlay and replay your track alongside teammates and competitors directly on the water, without cloud upload.

Bluetooth sensor support is also in development, with compatibility planned for windspeed, through-water speed and Cyclops load sensors.

Class legality is handled through two supplied keypads – red and grey. The red keymat gives full GPS functionality including speed and line distance for classes that permit it. The grey keymat delivers the same functionality as the universally class-legal Sailteck Race Compass, while retaining GPS track logging and track sharing capability. Swapping keypads takes moments and has no effect on the waterproof seal.

FAQ's:

What data does the Sailteck GPS Compass display?

Speed, heading, heel, trim, line distance, countdown timer and GPS atomic time-of-day. All shown on a twin display with large digits – designed to stay readable when you're hiking or trapezing.

Can it be used as a training tool?

Yes. The GPS Compass records your sailing tracks and allows you to compare them – across sessions or alongside teammates. You can analyse boat speed, tactical positioning, manoeuvre efficiency and wind shift responses. Useful both between races and across training blocks.

Is the Sailteck GPS Compass class legal?

It depends on the class, and the supplied keypads handle this. The red keypad enables full GPS functionality – speed, line distance and all data outputs – for classes that permit GPS during racing. The grey keypad limits the display to match the universally class-legal Sailteck Race Compass, while retaining GPS track logging and committee race management. Swapping keypads takes seconds and has no effect on the waterproof seal.

How accurate is the GPS?

The Sailteck GPS Compass uses a large sky-facing patch antenna connected to more than 30 satellites across four independent global constellations. This gives it far greater sensitivity than instruments using smaller, housing-constrained antennas – minimising signal dropout and delivering consistent speed and positioning data.

Will new features be added?

Yes. Sailteck is continuing to develop the GPS Compass through software updates. Planned additions include SailteckLIVE and Bluetooth sensor integration for expanded performance data.
