What's the P&B link to Emirates GBR SailGP Team?
Great Britain SailGP team driver Dylan Fletcher MBE kicked off his career at P&B in Northampton Head Office as a Sail Loft member.
At a recent event, P&B Musto Race Team Youth Member, Finn Neal, spoke with him about his time in our Northampton Sail Loft. Dylan's advice to younger sailors aspiring to compete at top-level sailing? “Keep doing what you’re doing. Have fun, keep your head down and work hard. Follow your dreams – hard work and enjoyment are the key.”
We'll be supporting Dylan and Hannah's GBR team from the grandstands at next year's event. Buy your tickets now and witness the thrill of SailGP on British waters with us – we cannot wait!

The UK leg of SailGP is being held at Southsea Common, located in Portsmouth, a port city steeped in British maritime history, is next to the popular seafront promenade and beach, which is ideal for kite flying, picnics and informal ball games.
SailGP is the world’s most exciting racing on water. The global championship features national teams battling in short, intense races at iconic stadium-style venues across the globe. The high-tech, high-speed action features sailing’s best athletes racing in identical hydrofoiling F50 catamarans, flying at speeds approaching 100 km/h.
SailGP Portsmouth 2026 – what to expect, and why P&B is part of the story
The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix is not a typical sailing event. SailGP was built on the premise that high-performance racing should be watchable – stadium-style, close to shore, with enough visible speed and tactical drama to hold a crowd of 20,000. Portsmouth delivers on that. Southsea Common provides grandstand views directly onto the Solent race course, with three races scheduled each afternoon across both days. Racing runs from approximately 16:00–17:30, weather permitting.
The F50 catamaran is central to understanding what makes SailGP different. These are purpose-built foiling machines – derived from the AC50 class but developed specifically for the SailGP format. They fly. At over 60mph on flat water, they operate in a physical and tactical environment that demands precision from every crew member, not just the helm. Watching a fleet of 13 of them race in close proximity is something that's difficult to describe to anyone who hasn't seen it.
For sailors who've raced dinghies at club or championship level, the principles on display are familiar — pressure, shifts, lane management, boat-on-boat – just executed at a scale and speed that reframes your understanding of what's possible.
The P&B connection to Emirates GBR goes back to Dylan Fletcher's time in our Northampton Sail Loft earlier in his career. The skills he developed there – understanding materials, construction, how sail shape drives boat performance – are the same skills that underpin elite racing at any level. It's a thread that runs directly from grassroots British sailing through to the Solent in July.
