Robbie Storrar and Alan Bax joined forces and created the Storrar & Bax brand, manufacturing championship winning sails, repairing boats and spars and supplying chandlery and clothing from their base in Newcastle.
Our name was changed to Pinnell & Bax, P&B to our friends, it's this name which has grown to be synonymous with UK sail making.
1994 – First plotter was installed into our Talbot Road premises to make the sail making process more efficient and help meet the increasing demand for our sails.
1997 – P&B had developed into a thriving, full-service sailing business which required more space than Talbot Road could offer. This saw us move operations into a brand new purpose-built premises in Kings Heath, Northampton, equipped with sail loft, mail order, chandlery and repair workshops. This year also saw the arrival of another of our sailing experts, Dave Wade, who soon progressed through the sail loft to become our Commercial Director.
1999 – As our business thrived and the demand for P&B's specialised services increased from the UK and across the globe the Kings Heath premises was extended to accommodate larger shop space and new workshop areas.
2011 – After producing numerous sails for World, European and National Champions our in-house sail loft team took the step of introducing Smar Azure, sail making software which helps us reach the optimum sail design for over 30 classes.
2012 – Following another successful year both on and off the water we were awarded the MTA’s Retailer of the Year at the Marine Trades Association/Boating Business Awards.
2014 – The first P&B built boats hit the water. After a successful introduction earlier in the year P&B brought boat building in-house with the P&B/JP Solo.
